Plantations with short cutting rotation, 2-3 years
(Short Rotation Forestry - SRF)
Experimental activities are conducted with a clear understanding of the objectives of genetic improvement, in order to produce hybrids capable of responding in the best possible way to the specific cultivation models they are created for. The term SRF refers to the cultivation for the production of biomass, mainly wood chips for energy uses or second-generation bioethanol.
We are currently finishing the selection of another 20 clones resulting from a more advanced genetic improvement program.
Already in 2024 we will begin the first open field tests with experimental tests divided into plots.
These clones were selected for their excellent rooting and their rapid growth. These clones must have excellent resistance to cortical diseases such as Dotichiza to allow them to regenerate their stump every spring for the continuity of the production cycle.
For clones intended for Biofuel production we select the clones with the highest percentage of cellulose and hemicellulose.
